Doughnut Bread Machine Recipes- the Dough with a Whole
When you see a fried treat with a hole in the middle, the first thing that comes into your mind is an image of a doughnut.
Doughnut or donut is a piece of yeast-based batter or dough that is prepared by frying and usually comes with glazed/powdered topping or sweet filled centers (e.g. jam, custard or cream).
In this article, we have prepared two doughnut bread machine recipes that you and your tasters will definitely enjoy. The first recipe is the basic doughnut while the second one makes you choose of what enhancement you wish to add, either sweet toppings or glazing.
Doughnuts Bread Machine Recipes #1
Notes: cook- 2 minutes, preparation- 20 minutes, rise- 45 minutes
Ingredients:
¼ c sugar
½ tsp. salt
½ tsp. vanilla
¾ c milk
1 egg
1-1/2 cups of sifted powdered sugar
1-1/2 tsp. bread machine yeast or active dry yeast
2 tbsp. water
3 cups of bread flour
3 tbsp. butter or margarine (cut up)
Cooking oil or shortening (deep-fat frying)
Milk
Instructions:
§ Mix all ingredients in a 1 ½ pound or 2-pound bread machine except cooking oil, powdered sugar, vanilla and milk. Follow the instructions as provided by the bread machine manufacturer. Then select dough cycle.
§ Complete the cycle and take the dough from the machine afterwards. Dust a flat surface with flour then punch dough.
§ Divide the dough into two portions, cover and let rise for 10 minutes.
§ Roll each dough one after the other into ½ inch thickness. Cut them with a floured doughnut cutter and re-roll. Cut the excess dough from the general design. Set these aside and let them rise for around an hour or until light.
§ Prepare the cooking oil and heat to 365 degrees F. Once the oil boils, throw in 3 pieces of doughnuts and let them boil for 2 to 3 minutes. Turn them once.
§ Drain excess oil on paper towels.
§ In a separate bowl, combine vanilla, sugar and 3 tbsps of milk. Drizzle this mixture on top of the doughnuts. This bread machine recipe makes 16 pieces.
Doughnuts Bread Machine Recipes # 2
Ingredients:
1/3 cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs (large)
3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup milk or water
4 tbsp. melted butter
4 tsp. yeast
Vegetable oil for frying
Toppings or glaze (recipe follows)
Place all ingredients into the bread machine pan except the last two and follow the instructions as set by the manufacturer. Fix to dough setting.
Once the dough cycle finishes, remove the dough and punch down onto lightly floured surface. Cover then let rise for 10 minutes.
Roll the dough into ½" thickness. Cut with floured doughnut cutter and place on greased baking sheet. Rest the cut dough for an hour.
Afterwards, prepare the frying pan and deep fry doughnuts for 1 minute on each side. Continue cooking until all doughnuts are done. Drain each on paper towel. Makes about 24 pieces. Spread glazing or garnish with toppings.
Toppings:
1/2 c chopped almonds
1/2 c powdered sugar
1/2 c whipped cream
1/2 c cinnamon sugar
3 oz. melted semi sweet chocolate
Glaze:
Mix 3 cups of powdered sugar, 1 tbsp. softened butter, and ½ tsp. of vanilla extract in a mixing bowl. Blend well and stir in just enough water or milk. Make a desired glaze consistency.
